The Boys (Areia Dubstep Remix) - Girls Generation
What a busy 4 minutes. For one, Girls Generation has enough members for like 2 or 3 “normal” American groups. 30 seconds in the girls all start swaying around doing their own little dances, and the population density gets pretty intimidating. Then we’ve got Areia wubbing all over time-distorted bits of some attempts at English vocals. Then there’s that weird gem thing that apparently makes roses lose pedals. And the white dove, who’s just trying to escape all this nonsense. So, in summary: your typical kpop MV.
Also, SM Entertainment: if you wanted to make a move for the States, a good start would have been to market them by their other name, SNSD. American buyers are NOT gonna go for “Girls Generation.”

Me And You - Nero
This isn’t about moderation. Nero’s first LP is set in a post-apocalyptic city; survivors, fight for your life with the power of dance music! How was this not the album opener? ”ARE YOU READY!” Alana announces over an epic riff, and no, she isn’t waiting for you to answer, fucker. Me And You exudes instant gratification like an 80’s side-scroller. Nero’s members undoubtedly worship those. Along with that Tron movie.
textures (2nd mix) blueprint:
dreamy, detailed atmospheres. the marriage of organic and electronic. genuine, purposeful. beauty in the understated. love in each texture.
Untroubled, by 123Mrk, is a good touchpoint. As gentle as electronic gets.
What’s Next?
I changed my intent behind my mixes, reseting the count back to 1. Now I’m really reaping the benefits.
RISING UP was high impact, dancecentric, exposing me to a few new sounds. I expanded my catalog, and relistened to some things I hadn’t given quite enough time before. PVT and Pictureplane are great examples of the latter.
Now I’ve moved on to 2nd project, textures. It’s territory I’m even less familiar with. Traveling down this rabbit hole is already addictive, a chase for a collection of songs that perfectly compliment each other.
I probably wouldn’t have fixated on these sounds without an ultimate product in mind. I wouldn’t settle in, sit down with a patient ear and appreciate what normally can drift by in the hectic blogosphere. And that’s how my intention’s changed.
Expect textures in January. Hopefully it’ll mean as much to you as it will to me.

Amor Fati - Washed Out
Undoubtedly Within and Without’s strongest song. Amor Fati is a dreamy getaway, gauzy and bright eyed, and a respite from life’s stresses. For Luke Rathborne, it is the backdrop for his Icelandic travels, from sprawling plains to local 20-somethings’ house parties. Tranquilly welcoming, yet coaxing on that adventurous spirit.

Wonders - Sound of Arrows
Wonders is a giant tumblr meme, stacked with vintage film clips, disarmingly pretty scenery, exaggerated pining. These viral posts usually kick around the same faded-polaroid scheme, but we all keep returning to them, don’t we? How many flavors of Kids can all these newcomers synthesize? Doesn’t matter. As long as we view our grandest moments through photoshopped hues, songs like Wonders will prove endlessly appealing, and Sound of Arrows has a day job.
